Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is an inclusive school where students with disabilities work in a range of settings, including mainstream classes and the Inclusive Learning Unit. We support these students with an Education Assistant and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) plan created by staff. SEN plans are individualised, consisting of goals and strategies used to achieve the goals. Some programs used in the Inclusive Learning Unit are Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Direct Instruction (Spelling Mastery and Reading Mastery), Letters and Sounds, and You Can Do It Education. The Role As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will, under teacher direction, assist in the education programmes and promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will help deliver planned education programmes to assist students to reach their full potential, through the development of their academic, social, emotional and physical skills, including the operation of computers and digital technologies. Suitable applicants will ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, possess knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, and support student growth academically and socially. Experience with Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and Team Teach training is regarded. In this role you should be highly engaged in development of student independence through planned and explicit approaches to support self‑management and self‑regulation. This includes involvement, with the teacher, in development, monitoring and review of student programmes and plans.
