As a Manager within the Resource Management function, you'll be part of our People & Development (P&D) team based in Melbourne or Sydney. This is a critical role facilitating the allocation of staff to work across the Firm. You will focus on finding the optimal allocation of work that satisfies both the business and our employees, taking into consideration client demands, commercial objectives, staff career progression and welfare. Responsibilities Work alongside the Senior Resource Manager to develop and implement best practice work allocation strategies and processes to optimise the firm’s resource management, utilisation and availability. Assess the workload and capacity of lawyers and Practice Groups to determine the availability and capability for taking on new projects / matters. Provide support, training and a point of escalation for resource consultants within the team. Analyse projects / matters, including timelines and necessary skill sets, to identify the most suitable resources considering expertise, availability, and development opportunities. Optimise utilisation by identifying and resolving conflicts, bottlenecks or imbalances in resource allocation. Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders across the Firm to understand project / matter progress, anticipate resource needs, and address any challenges that may arise to ensure effective work allocation. Track and monitor the progress and performance of assigned tasks and responsibilities to ensure timely completion and quality deliverables. Forecast future resource requirements based on project pipelines, business growth, and strategic initiatives. Proactively identify potential gaps or surpluses in resource availability and recommend adjustments to meet organisational needs. Establish strong relationships with lawyers and partners in the practice group while actively assisting in change management and integrating the function. About You Experience in resource management, workforce allocation or a related role, preferably in a professional services or legal environment. Strong understanding of resource planning, allocation and optimisation principles. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills to assess resource demands and optimise resource allocation. Effective communication and interpersonal skills and experience in building strategic relationships and fostering trust with lawyers, Partners, and staff. An ability to influence and drive culture change, ensuring successful adoption of new work allocation processes and initiatives. Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. A basic understanding of project and change management principles. A strategic perspective, with the ability to think proactively and implement resource management strategies that align with organisational goals.
