Principal Consultant, Air Quality – ERM Overview ERM is seeking a motivated Principal Consultant with significant air quality consulting experience and strong client relationships to grow our air quality services business in Houston or Midland, Texas. This partner‑track opportunity is for an air quality professional who wants to advance their career with a global environmental leader and make a significant impact through the implementation of ERM’s global strategy. Responsibilities Develop and implement strategic market and business plan, and provide leadership and direction to expand ERM’s air quality service area and client base, particularly in the Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical sectors. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take an active leadership role in acquiring new business with both new and existing clients. Direct strategic air permits and compliance programs for a variety of industrial clients with complex technical/regulatory issues, ensuring client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality are met. Manage project deliverables, budgets, and schedules. Contribute to expanding ERM’s air consulting services annually by taking a “seller/doer” role in business development and proposal preparation. Capitalize on existing client relationships to increase ERM’s profile and market share in the regional Air Quality market and other service‑line offerings. Mentor junior and mid‑level staff in planning and execution of air quality projects, and conduct independent technical reviews of deliverable work products. Collaborate with global practitioners to execute air quality projects, including participating on multinational teams. Apply advanced or subject‑matter expertise in air permitting and compliance (e.g., air dispersion modeling, stormwater, SPCC, RMP/PSM, CEQA permitting, multi‑media auditing). Leverage ERM’s other consulting service areas to support cross‑selling to existing clients. Requirements Recognized expert in federal and state air regulations. Experience leading and growing business in a dynamic market environment. Minimum of a BS in engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental) or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable. Certification in field (P.E., CSP, CHMM, or similar) desired. 6+ years (12 years preferred) of solid air quality consulting experience with technical competence in Title V, PSD, NSR, BACT, and MACT. Strong track record of managing project deliverables, schedules, and budgets. In‑depth understanding of the Oil & Gas, Energy, Technology, or Chemical industry in Texas, with existing relationships that can be leveraged for new business. Consistent “seller/doer” track record, including winning large and strategic projects. Reputation in the local marketplace and technical expertise in one of ERM’s existing service offerings (air quality/climate change, EHS compliance, process safety, sustainability, environmental permitting). Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams. Excellent communication, strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
