Book Club Volunteer

Volunteers will create a welcoming atmosphere where residents from our retirement village can come together to explore books, share thoughts, and connect over stories. As a Book Club Volunteer, you’ll help facilitate light‑hearted discussions, encourage participation, and make reading a social and uplifting experience. You will help turn pages into friendships sparking laughter, memories, and lively chats over great stories. Main Tasks Facilitate relaxed book club sessions and help select books that are fun and thought‑provoking to encourage residents enjoyment and mental stimulation Encourage residents to share their thoughts, memories and personal reflections to promote meaningful conversation and personal connection Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating, whether they have read the book or not, to foster a sense of belonging Volunteer only in communal areas and never enter residents private residence to ensure residents privacy and maintain respectful boundaries Personal Qualities and Skills Be passionate about books, a good listener, with empathy and emotional sensitivity Be reliable, flexible and committed Able to make personal connections with staff, volunteers, senior people, and their families regardless of cultural backgrounds, beliefs and denominations Benefits Access to RSL LifeCare Employee Assistance Program Gain valuable skills, experience and access various online and in‑person trainings Develop your listening, empathy, and communication skills in a supportive environment Be a valuable member of our team and have the opportunity to be part of RSL LifeCare Volunteer Panel Ongoing support throughout your volunteer journey Category Seniors & Aged Care Commitment Regular – less than 6 months Type Of Work Companionship & Social Support, Library Services, Seniors & Aged Care Time Required 2 hours a week or fortnight – between Monday to Friday Dates and times can be mutually agreed with the volunteer.
