Selection Criteria Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated experience in responding to student learning needs. Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth. Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement. Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values, and experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve teaching quality. Demonstrated knowledge of VET Certificate II in Cookery or higher, and the ability to design and deliver competency‑based programmes in this and other technology and applied learning areas. The candidate should be able to: Engage and sustain current students in the programmes delivered. Develop and promote new student interest in Cookery within the College. Develop and promote new links to industry to improve training quality and relevance to students. Role The successful applicant will independently design, develop, implement and review the delivery of the SIT20421 Certificate II in Cookery, ensuring alignment with the following Units of Competency: SITHCCC026 – Package prepared foodstuffs SITXWHS005 – Participate in safe work practices SITXINV006 – Receive, store and maintain stock SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety SITHKOP009 – Clean kitchen premises and equipment SITHCCC023 – Use food preparation equipment SITHCCC024 – Prepare and present simple dishes SITHCCC025 – Prepare and present sandwiches SITHCCC027 – Prepare dishes using basic methods of cookery SITHCCC028 – Prepare appetisers and salads SITHCCC029 – Prepare stocks and sauces and soups SITHCCC030 – Prepare vegetable, fruit, eggs and farinaceous dishes SITHCCC034 – Work effectively in a commercial kitchen Teaching will take place in the Geelong Industry Trade Training Centre kitchen facility, adjacent to Northern Bay College’s Senior Secondary Campus. Applicants should hold a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, relevant industry qualifications, industry experience and be registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Experience in teaching Design and Technology to years 7‑12 is desirable. Responsibilities Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students. Planning, preparing and delivering teaching programmes to achieve specific student outcomes. Monitoring and assessing student learning and providing feedback. Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum areas. Assessing students in accordance with the Learning and Assessment Strategy. Ensuring compliance with AQF, ASQA and other applicable legislation. Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps and excursions. Undertaking other classroom teaching‑related and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal. Undertaking non‑teaching supervisory duties where required. Qualifications & Experience Passion for VET training. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Relevant industry qualifications for Certificate II in Cookery. Minimum 2 years of Australian industry‑based experience. Capacity to relate well with students and peers at all levels. Excellent presentation, communication and organisational skills. Ability to prioritise work and follow procedures and processes. Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a member of a team. Recent postgraduate initial teaching program completion or appropriate accreditation if the candidate completed a program on or after 1 January 2024. Passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education if graduated from a Victorian ITE program after 1 July 2016.
