Technical Specialist, IP Provisioning And Automation Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions. The Technical Specialist is responsible for designing and ensuring the performance of Optus’s transport network, which supports voice, data, and video services for both fixed broadband and mobile customers. This role owns the provisioning and activation of telecom network services with a strong emphasis on accuracy, efficiency, and automation, ensuring flawless integration with digital experience and network infrastructure. Key responsibilities include end-to-end configuration and deployment of IP/MPLS services across multi-vendor platforms such as Juniper, Nokia, and Cisco, employing technologies like MPLS, Segment Routing (SR/SRv6), BGP-LU, and ISIS. The role requires expertise in network automation using SDN frameworks and tools like Cisco NSO and Red Hat Ansible to streamline provisioning workflows. Additionally, the Technical Specialist drives process improvements, provides technical training, collaborates with vendors and internal teams, and remains committed to adopting emerging technologies that improve network performance, reliability, and scalability in a dynamic telecommunications’ environment. Your day to day will consist of Own the provisioning and activation of complex IP/MPLS circuits and services across multi-vendor platforms (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia) in alignment with development and planning requirements. Design and maintain advanced configuration templates, automation scripts, and workflows using tools like Cisco NSO and Red Hat Ansible to streamline provisioning processes. Identify design flaws, operational risks, and inefficiencies; tackle complex provisioning issues and lead root cause analysis to minimize service impact. Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, processes, and changes; follow established change management procedures. Work closely with architecture and planning teams to validate service feasibility; deliver technical audits, training programs, and workshops for internal teams and vendors. Evaluate emerging technologies, automation tools, and best practices to improve provisioning efficiency, scalability, and operational excellence. What makes you perfect for the role? Professional qualification in Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent extensive industry experience; minimum 5 years in IP Network Design or Automation roles. Solid understanding of IP networking, routing/switching, MPLS, SRv6, ISIS, traffic engineering, and multi-vendor platforms (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia); experience with mobile IP (2G–LTE), VoIP, and transmission technologies. Proficient in SDN frameworks and automation tools such as Cisco NSO and Red Hat Ansible for provisioning and workflow automation. Exceptional troubleshooting and documentation skills, with a proven track record in optimizing network designs and resolving complex provisioning issues. Clear communicator with strong customer focus, self-motivation, and ability to work cross-functionally; organised, diligent, and committed to continuous learning.
