GIS Officer

This key position is responsible for the administration maintenance and continued development of Councils Geographic Information System (GIS) ensuring accurate and accessible spatial data supports the delivery of services to our community. About the role As the GIS Officer you will be responsible for : Coordinating the procurement management and distribution of spatial data between internal and external data custodians. Managing and delivering complex GIS projects. Developing and maintaining online and field-based GIS tools for data collection management and display. Acting as database administrator for spatial data ensuring accuracy integrity and availability. Maintaining data synchronisation between corporate Asset and Information Systems and the GIS. Developing and supporting both internal and public-facing GIS web map applications. Undertaking spatial analysis and generating datasets reports and maps. Liaising with system providers and data custodians to procure data develop schemas and maintain system availability. Managing metadata and ensuring compliance with data standards. Developing GIS policies procedures and operating standards. Training internal staff in the use of GIS and spatial data tools. Developing and maintaining field data capture and asset management applications including quality assurance and data integration. Supporting emergency management operations through GIS logistics functions. What youll bring to the role A degree in spatial sciences or a related discipline or five (5) years experience in the use of GIS technology (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Strong knowledge of geospatial information science with extensive experience using MapInfo and QGIS for asset management. Experience with GNSS data collection and the ability to use LiDAR and raster data effectively within GIS applications. Proficiency with spatial data transformation software (particularly Safe Softwares FME) and scripting languages such as Python. Experience managing spatial databases and using SQL for data administration. A solid understanding of land administration systems within Tasmania including municipal mapping field data capture QA and data integration processes. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to train and support staff and to work both independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated experience managing technical projects including GIS application updates configuration and Windows system administration. Position details full-time (76 hours fortnight).
