The role Reporting to the Turf & Irrigation Coordinator, we are seeking a highly motivated individual who can bring their skills and experience for: Lead and motivate the Turf and Irrigation team by providing clear direction and guidance in the field to deliver high‑quality outcomes with a strong focus on teamwork, productivity and efficiency. Oversee daily operations across all turf surfaces, including sports fields, reserves, and passive open spaces, ensuring best‑practice turf management. Plan, coordinate and deliver irrigation maintenance programs, including scheduling audits, valve testing and optimising irrigation cycles for water efficiency. Conduct fault‑finding and diagnostics on irrigation systems (e.g., solenoids, controllers, sprinklers) to ensure timely repairs and minimal downtime. Undertake repairs to all irrigation systems as required, liaising with irrigation maintenance contractors to achieve the best outcomes. Be responsible for monitoring all irrigation activities across designated sites, including maintenance and repairs; supervise and direct a small irrigation team in the field, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Monitor and report to the Coordinator on turf health, including compaction, thatch levels, wear patterns and nutrient deficiencies; initiate rectification and renovation programs as required. Implement and enforce safe work practices in accordance with OH&S legislation, SWMS, risk assessments and Council’s safety protocols. Promote continuous improvement initiatives in productivity, safety and service delivery, providing recommendations to the Turf and Irrigation Coordinator. Assist the Coordinator in managing external contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and the delivery of turf and irrigation maintenance services within contract terms. Monitor resource use (labour, equipment and materials) to ensure works are completed on time and within allocated budgets. Deliver a high standard of customer service to internal stakeholders, user groups and the general public, ensuring professional communication and positive engagement. Provide on‑the‑job training, mentoring and support to team members to build capability and promote a positive team culture. Ensure all turf and irrigation activities align with Council’s Best Value principles and contribute to environmental sustainability. To be considered you will have: At least 5 years of field irrigation experience. Ability to work in accordance with our values and behaviours. Demonstrated ability to implement and improve maintenance programs. Demonstrated ability to lead small teams and manage staff. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Current driver’s licence. OH&S knowledge, especially relevant to turf and irrigation maintenance tasks. Physical fitness.
