Purpose of This Position Navia is scaling rapidly, and AI is a core enabler of throughput, operational leverage and margin expansion. We are seeking an exceptional Team Lead – AI Full‑Stack Developer to spearhead the development and delivery of Navia’s AI platforms, including: Document Digitisation & AI‑Driven Data Extraction Workflow Automation integrated with CargoWise One (CW1) AI Agents forming the foundation of our Digital Colleague Future AI‑enabled products across Navia Hub, Connect and GTM solutions This role blends hands‑on engineering, technical leadership and architectural governance. You will oversee and mentor Navia’s AI development team, drive engineering excellence and ensure robust, scalable and secure AI solutions aligned with Navia’s three‑year strategic plan. Job Status: Full‑Time Job Location: Hybrid – Melbourne Airport, Victoria, Australia Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Lead, mentor and uplift a team of full‑stack and AI developers. Establish engineering standards, coding guidelines and development workflows. Conduct code reviews, provide architectural guidance and ensure technical consistency across AI streams. Drive technical decision‑making, including evaluation of new tools, frameworks and model architectures. Oversee integration patterns across document AI, workflow AI, APIs, agents and CW1 XML services. Architect scalable backend systems, microservices and pipelines for AI‑driven automation. Design integration layers that interact with CW1 via Universal XML, eAdaptor SOAP, HTTP+XML and external databases. Build modular libraries for document parsing, LLM orchestration, task automation logic and XML transformation. Ensure all systems comply with Navia’s IAM, security, audit and incident‑response standards. Build and integrate LLMs, machine learning models and retrieval‑augmented systems into production. Develop robust prompt engineering frameworks, validation layers and error‑handling workflows. Implement vector search, embedding generation and model optimisation pipelines. Deploy AI models using modern MLOps practices and cloud‑based deployment patterns. Full Stack Development Build backend components using Python and modern frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask). Implement APIs, services, workflow engines, ingestion pipelines and user‑facing features where required. Contribute to front‑end components using React, Vue or Angular for tools that support AI operations. Ensure systems are performant, maintainable, observable and fault‑tolerant. Collaboration & Delivery Management Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Integration Specialists and the CIO on scope alignment, feature prioritisation, workflow mapping and architectural direction. Break down complex AI initiatives into sprintable work packages. Manage GitHub repositories, branching strategies, CI/CD pipelines and release governance. Facilitate agile ceremonies and drive continuous improvement across the AI squad. Experience and Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar. Experience in data engineering, ETL or workflow automation. Knowledge of secure coding practices and cloud security fundamentals. Familiarity with observability, APM and performance optimisation. Core Engineering 5+ years advanced Python engineering experience. Strong backend architecture capability (REST/GraphQL, microservices). Deep understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous execution and event‑driven design. Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (Mongo/Redis) databases. AI/ML & LLM Expertise Experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn). Practical experience with LLM integration, prompt engineering, embeddings and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma etc.). Experience deploying AI systems into production using MLOps patterns. Familiarity with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or similar. Full Stack / Frontend Working knowledge of React, Vue.js or Angular. Experience with API consumption, component architecture and state management. Cloud, DevOps & Infrastructure Experience with Azure preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable. Docker and Kubernetes experience. Proficiency with GitHub workflows, CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform/CloudFormation). Monitoring and observability experience (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK). Integration / Middleware Understanding of enterprise XML, XSD, SOAP, RESTful integrations. Experience with message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka). Exposure to logistics or freight platforms (CargoWise One highly desirable). Leadership & Soft Skills 2+ years technical leadership or team‑lead experience. Strong communication and mentoring capability. Ability to balance hands‑on engineering with team leadership. Process‑driven, structured and outcome‑focused. Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Deliver production‑grade Document AI and Workflow Automation AI. Establish engineering foundations for the Digital Colleague platform. Build reusable internal libraries for prompts, pipelines and XML handling. Uplift the AI development team into high‑performing engineers under a consistent framework. Implement robust DevOps pipelines, deployment frameworks and operational monitoring. Achieve measurable reductions in manual hours and workflow latency.
