We are searching for a Cook to join the Harbourstone Enhanced Care team based in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Assists with food preparation for special functions (e.g., catering, theme dinners) to meet established standards. Reports recipe shortages, discrepancies, or quality issues to the Executive Chef or supervisor in a timely manner. Executes departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines as a member of the Food Services Team. Executes food services for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner within the Supportive Living Lifestyle dining room in accordance with Brand Standards. Executes food services for special functions such as catering and theme dinners to ensure service meets established standards. Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet department standards; ensures meals are attractive, correctly tempered, portioned, and served timely. Introduces self to new residents in the dining rooms as part of resident orientation / welcome. Responds to resident food service needs and expectations in accordance with service expectations. Effectively communicates and interacts with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner. Assists in the orientation of new team members to ensure standards are met. Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily; maintains cleanliness of kitchen equipment (ovens, kettles, mixers, etc.) to meet safety and sanitation standards; manages clear labeling of excess food. Follows disposal procedures according to established waste-management guidelines (organics, paper, plastics, cans / bottles, non-recyclables, etc.). Performs additional duties as required. About You A high-school diploma or a GED. Current food handlers' certificate (preferred). Minimum of 2 years of operational experience in a high-volume kitchen. Knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation. Ability to read and follow detailed recipes / instructions as required and communicate efficiently in a team-oriented setting. Ability to provide a clear criminal record check. A passion for the healthcare sector and / or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care.
