The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a pivotal role that will ensure the integrity of BNTAC’s financial operations, compliance, and reporting. Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee day-to-day financial activities, support governance and risk management, and provide trusted financial advice to enable BNTAC to deliver on its strategic and community priorities. Key Responsibilities Oversee financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and cash flow management. Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end processes, including accruals, provisions, and reconciliations. Support preparation of annual financial statements and external audits. Maintain registers for grants, contracts, and insurance while tracking obligations and compliance requirements. Review and approve payroll journals, invoices, purchase orders, and funding payments. Ensure compliance with relevant employment awards, tax obligations, and superannuation requirements. Contribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and Board reporting. Supervise and mentor junior finance staff. Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls. About You You’re highly detail-oriented, steady under pressure, and able to balance the demands of day-to-day finance with the bigger strategic picture. You will have: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/CPA highly desirable). Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role preferred. Strong knowledge of month-end/year-end processes. Proven ability to prepare financial statements and audit files. Excellent Excel skills and financial systems literacy (Xero proficiency highly desirable). Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring finance staff. High attention to detail, with excellent communication and organisational skills. A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated cultural competence and respect when working with Aboriginal people and communities.
