Senior Geotechnical Engineer Grade: Clerk Grade 9/10 Salary range: $129,464 – $142,665 + superannuation and leave loading Duration: Ongoing, Full-time Location: Hybrid work arrangement, Newcastle. Office attendance required 2–3 days per week. About the Department and Subsidence Advisory NSW The Department of Customer Service (DCS) is a government regulator and central agency. Subsidence Advisory NSW operates in coal mining areas of New South Wales and administers the Coal Mine Subsidence Compensation Act. It provides expert advice to property owners, government departments, local councils, community organisations and industries across mine subsidence districts. About the Subsidence Advisory NSW Technical Team The technical team provides specialist geotechnical and engineering expertise to support the assessment and management of mine subsidence impacts across New South Wales. The team undertakes technical reviews, risk assessments, geotechnical investigations and manages remediation works in affected areas. About the Role As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will support subsidence advisory services through scoping and managing geotechnical site investigations, subsidence remediation works (e.g. grouting), analysis of survey data (ground survey, groundwater, InSAR, LiDAR, GNSS), preparation of reports, and reviewing and interpreting geotechnical and survey reports to predict and manage mine subsidence risk on existing and future developments. Qualifications A degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering and relevant work experience in geotechnical or mining engineering. Ability to interpret and analyse data, identify risk and provide sound geotechnical advice. Experience in conducting geotechnical risk assessments. Ability to communicate engineering concepts to diverse internal and external stakeholders. Criminal record check required and a full drivers licence essential. Desirable Experience and Capabilities Experience providing geotechnical advice regarding mine subsidence risk. Experience providing strategic advice on engineering controls to mitigate subsidence impacts on surface development. Experience with technologies such as InSAR, LiDAR, GIS.
