Neurological Peer Support Group Facilitator
Vor 7 Tagen
Neurological Peer Support Group Facilitator Peer support groups safely connect people within a supportive, enjoyable and relaxed environment, empowering participants to take control of their health and well‑being by sharing experiences; increasing knowledge and health literacy; learning how to self‑manage the condition or symptoms, finding new coping strategies and getting practical advice, support and encouragement to access services. Equally important, peer support improves social and psychological well‑being and overall quality of life as a result of genuine social connection, reduced isolation, forming new friendships, and feelings of acceptance, comfort and hope in the stories of others. We're looking for positive, supportive and committed Peer Support Group Leaders to help establish and run peer support groups in the Albany region. We welcome applicants with lived experience of neurological conditions or caring for people with such conditions, and can commit to organising, attending, setting up and facilitating a monthly peer‑led support group in line with an established framework. Volunteers receive training and ongoing supervision, support and debriefing, both individually and as a volunteer group. These are very impactful and rewarding roles, and you'll be making a difference by helping us help others. Attributes and Requirements Strong listening and communication skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality Empathy for people impacted by health and disability challenges Ability to locate resources and information for use by the group or its individual members Reliability, time, energy and commitment necessary to leading the support group Good organisational and meeting or event coordination skills Personal or professional experience with neurological conditions or group facilitation skills Location: Juniper Community Centre, Lockyer.
