Our school celebrates diversity, including 36 students within our Hearing Support Unit as well as students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We have approximately 760 students with 42% of the school population from English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) backgrounds and 53 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. The school has strong student leadership opportunities and is developing other opportunities in sport, academic and cultural areas to strengthen our commitment to developing the whole child. The school continues to implement “Resilience in Our Teens”, an evidence-informed program across 7-10, working with students, parents and staff on adopting a ‘have a go’ attitude. This works in tandem with the re-invigoration of a focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning across the school. This position is responsible for the leadership and management of the Hearing Support Unit which has approximately 14 staff in 2025, including four permanent teaching positions, temporary teachers and SLSO staff. General Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach Special Education - Hearing Impairment. Demonstrated ability to lead the development, implementation and evaluation of quality, inclusive learning programs to meet the complex needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Proven capacity and significant experience in fostering positive relationships with students, their families and outside agencies to collaborate, develop and implement strategies for individualised support, transition, behaviour and wellbeing of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing with additional learning needs. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a dynamic faculty of teaching and non-teaching staff to promote a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. Ability to work as a dynamic member of the School Executive team, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to engage and inspire staff, parents, students, and the wider community whilst building a culture of inclusivity. Specific Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
