Music and Creative Events Lead

About The Role In this role, you will help shape a vibrant and thriving creative and music scene in Greater Geelong. You’ll lead the delivery of major creative events such as Geelong Design Week, ROAM Geelong, and ReSound, while supporting the growth of the local music industry through development programs, sector engagement, and collaboration with artists, venues, and creative businesses. This is a hands‑on role that blends event leadership, industry support, and cultural activation. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Council and the creative sector to reduce barriers, activate spaces, commission new work, and champion initiatives that strengthen Geelong’s identity as a culturally rich, innovative, and creative city. Work type: Permanent, Part‑Time (60.8 hours per fortnight) Classification: Band 7 – Commencing at $106,158 pa (pro‑rata) About You You are someone who is energised by the power of music, creativity, and community to shape a city’s cultural identity. You bring strong relationship‑building skills, a collaborative approach, and a passion for supporting artists and creative practitioners. You are confident working across diverse stakeholders from musicians and industry bodies to internal Council teams and you’re motivated by finding creative solutions, improving processes, and turning ideas into high‑quality events and programs. Essential Experience Relevant qualification in Creative Industries, Arts Management, Event Management, Cultural Development, Community Development, or a related field and/or significant experience in a comparable creative, cultural, or events‑focused organisation. Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, and delivering arts, music, or creative events, programs, or activations. Experience supporting or working within the music industry, including knowledge of live music ecosystems, sector challenges, and development pathways. Strong stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to build partnerships across artists, venues, community organisations, and industry bodies. Experience commissioning creative work, coordinating contractors or artists, and managing project planning, budgets, reporting, and evaluation. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams and navigate complex internal processes to support cultural activation and sector needs. Knowledge of best‑practice approaches in cultural development, placemaking, or creative sector support, with a commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and community benefit. Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre‑employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
