About the Role The Community Liaison Officer supports schools in building vibrant, tolerant and harmonious school communities. The Community Liaison Officer works to support school communities in the development of approaches to improve social, emotional, health and educational outcomes for students. Special Notes This is a temporary part time position for 3 days a week (0.6 FTE) Full time equivalent for a period of 12 months with a possibility of extension. Additional Information Canley Heights Public School is a large primary school located south‑west of Sydney in a low/medium density residential area in the Fairfield local government area. The school has a population of 568 students, including 40 preschool children, and 28 attending special education classes supporting students with Autism and Intellectually Moderate (IO) disabilities. The school community is culturally and linguistically diverse with just under 92% of our students coming from language backgrounds other than English. The predominant community languages are Vietnamese (49%), Khmer (9%), Arabic (6%), Samoan (3%) and Chinese (4%). A number of students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (3.55%). Some of our families identified as being refugees. Our students are supported by significant EAL/D and Community Language programmes as well as targeted literacy and numeracy initiatives. The school's staffing in 2025 is made up of 50 teaching staff and 23 non‑teaching staff. The socio‑economic backgrounds of our families results in the school receiving substantial equity funding which is used to address our students' educational needs. Significant funding is used to employ additional human resources. These resources are in the form of our School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), Community Liaison Officer (CLO), additional instructional leadership time for APs, and additional English as an additional language or dialect (EALD) educators. The school is striving for a collective efficacy of high expectations and these additional staff resources assist the school to maintain positive and open channels of communication between staff, students, parents and community members.
