About this roleAs the Senior Compliance Specialist you will ensure Western Power meets its compliance obligations through an effective implementation of the organisation’s legislative compliance management framework and associated policies and procedures.Monitor the external market for potential additions or changes to legislative and regulatory obligations, notify key internal stakeholders and facilitate the preparation and delivery of Western Power’s responses.Prioritise compliance actions by risk assessing legislative obligations, to assist Western Power to appropriately schedule and allocate resources.Manage and enhance Western Power’s legislative obligations database (currently referred to as the Online Compliance Register) as well as managing and accessing the adequacy of compliance planning, failure reporting and training tools.Support Functions in the preparation of submissions (if any) that form part of the legislative obligations for that Function and drive consistency and high standards in the preparation of documentation (across the business) that is provided to external stakeholders.Allocate (and periodically review) Function and Area accountabilities (‘Obligation Owners’) for compliance with legislative obligations and engage with Obligation Owners to ensure their awareness of their accountability for compliance with those legislative obligations.Develop frameworks for compliance plans for each Function and facilitate and monitor the completion (and currency) of compliance plans by Obligation Owners. Compliance plans should identify actions required by Obligation Owners to comply with the relevant legislative obligations. Ensure a consistent standard across all compliance plans so that they provide a high-quality tool for Heads of Function and the Executive to manage compliance.Initiate the development (and review) of compliance assurance programs for each Function then facilitate and monitor the completion and implementation of compliance assurance programs by Functions. Compliance assurance programs should form the basis of the Executive Assurance Reports and may be made up of compliance plans, audit results and other inputs.Identify and monitor actions required in response to (1) compliance plan reviews, (2) compliance failures (3) assurance report exceptions and customer complaints data relating to legislative obligations (‘Remediation Actions’) and effectively engage with stakeholders on these matters to ensure actions are undertaken.Facilitate and draft quarterly compliance reports to senior management and the Board including identifying trends from compliance issues and creating data dashboards for reports to enable visual tracking of data.Provide advice on the application of Western Power’s code of conduct and conflict of interest standard.Provide advice and guidance in response to general compliance queries and more generally analyse, interpret and advise the business (and its contractors) on all aspects of its compliance obligations.
About youWe are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:A Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Commerce, Law or other relevant disciplineBroad and extensive knowledge and expertise with demonstrated experience in compliance, auditing or investigative position gained in a highly regulated environment.Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders.Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.Strong customer focus and ability to build relationships and networks.Strong negotiation and influencing skills.Commercial experience in a large corporate environment.Joining Western PowerOur people play a vital role in creating an innovative, safe, and supportive workplace, living our values and delivering exceptional service to the communities in which we operate.
