Who We Are Millenba (formerly Barrett Adolescent School) is an alternative state high school located in Tennyson, supporting up to 50 students who have disengaged from mainstream education due to complex and ongoing mental health challenges. Millenba provides a flexible, inclusive and individualised learning environment that enables students to re-engage with education through the Australian Curriculum and a range of senior pathways. Most students attend for 12 to 18 months before being supported to transition into further education, training, or employment aligned with their learning goals and future aspirations. Step Into Your Next Chapter The Head of Department – Student Services will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Millenba's student support systems to ensure the wellbeing, safety and engagement of all young people. This includes overseeing case management processes; coordinating multidisciplinary supports; and ensuring high-quality planning, monitoring, and review practices for students with complex and ongoing mental health needs. The role will guide staff in applying trauma-informed, relational, and strength-based approaches, while fostering consistent school-wide expectations, routines, and wellbeing initiatives. A key focus will be collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support students' successful re‑engagement in learning, strengthen their social and emotional capabilities, and facilitate smooth transitions across pathways, including returning to mainstream settings, moving into senior education, training, or employment. Responsibilities Include Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative measures aimed at improving student learning outcomes and attendance in schools where a significant percentage of students may have a disadvantaged background, ensuring quality learning outcomes for all students. Where requested, prepare all data returns for the Principal. Provide management and engagement strategies including induction activities of new arrivals, and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of new arrivals. Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary. Please view the role description for a full list of responsibilities.
