Role Overview We are looking for a Maritime Surveyor at FMC International with either an engineering background (having obtained a Chief Engineer license on ocean-going vessels) or a master mariner background (having obtained a Master Marine unlimited license on ocean-going vessels). You will be the primary representative of the company’s services on the ground, playing a pivotal role in delivering technical expertise onboard vessels. You will be responsible for conducting a broad range of inspections and surveys, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and providing key insights to stakeholders. This position demands a confident professional with a high degree of precision and expertise who can effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse groups including ship crew, AMSA, and maritime authorities. With a focus on technical excellence and customer service, you will embody FMC International's commitment to quality and professionalism. Key Responsibilities Conduct detailed onboard surveys and inspections to ensure vessels meet all regulatory, safety, and technical standards. Prepare and deliver comprehensive inspection reports, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented. Serve as the primary point of contact for vessel crew, owners, and external authorities, including AMSA and maritime regulatory bodies. Assess the condition of ship structures, machinery, and safety systems, providing expert recommendations to stakeholders. Ensure compliance with international and local maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and AMSA requirements. Represent FMC International with professionalism during all interactions and ensure high‑quality service delivery. Collaborate with technical teams and provide expert advice to clients on vessel repairs, maintenance, and operational best practices. Stay updated on evolving industry standards, regulatory changes, and advancements in maritime technologies. Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and provide guidance on corrective measures to prevent future occurrences. Foster positive working relationships with clients and regulatory authorities to enhance FMC International's reputation within the maritime industry. Qualifications and Experience Chief Engineer or Master Mariner License: Must hold a Chief Engineer's License or Master Mariner license, unlimited, issued by a recognized maritime authority. Experience: A minimum of 15 years of maritime experience, with at least 2 years as Chief Engineer or Master Mariner. Technical Knowledge: In‑depth understanding of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and ISPS codes. Familiarity with classification societies, flag‑state requirements, and AMSA regulations. Surveying Experience: Prior experience conducting technical inspections, surveys, or audits of vessels is preferred. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with onboard crew, regulatory bodies, and clients. Analytical Abilities: Proven problem‑solving skills, with a focus on precision and attention to detail in technical assessments and reporting. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical onboard inspections, which may involve climbing, confined space entry, and work in varying environmental conditions.
