Rail Operations Manager

About the Role As a key leader within our operations team, you will oversee rail operations across the Goonyella and surrounding networks. You'll be responsible for guiding a diverse team to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable services while fostering a culture of engagement, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Your leadership will be instrumental in building a high-performing workforce and driving sustainable growth to meet the evolving needs of our customers and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain a culture of open and proactive communication with all team members. Establish and maintain effective and timely working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure day-to-day requirements and expectations are met. Work collaboratively with peers and cross functional teams. Vigorously apply Safety and Risk management rules and procedures through engagement with the team. Conduct high level incident investigations and provide recommendations for improvement. Manage allocated operations and ensure cost efficient performance that meets budget requirements. Set and monitor business objectives and targets that drive improvements in operational performance. Influence and refine operational systems, striving for continuous improvement and innovation. Implement business improvement initiatives within the area of control. Project manage initiatives to support One Rail's strategic focus. Key Working Relationships Senior management and employees of ORA Existing and potential business customers and partners of ORA group Key Industry Stakeholders About You Proven leadership experience in managing large operational teams, with a track record of driving performance, fostering collaboration, and achieving strategic outcomes. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and build strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation. High level of personal accountability, with a commitment to delivering results and taking ownership of responsibilities. Adaptability and flexibility, with a proactive approach to responding to changing business needs, priorities, and operational demands. Exceptional time management and prioritisation abilities, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are optimally allocated in a dynamic environment. A current and valid driver's license, enabling travel as required for operational duties. Willingness and capability to participate in a rotating on-call arrangement, providing support outside standard business hours when necessary. Highly Regarded Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline Formal qualifications in leadership or management are desirable. Experience in the rail industry is desirable.
