Spinifex Health Service is a not-for-profit, Aboriginal community-controlled health service located in the remote Aboriginal Community of Tjuntjuntjara in Western Australia. Dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the local community, Spinifex Health Service offers a wide range of essential services, including primary health care, aged care, social services, and emergency response, ensuring the improvement of the well‑being and health of the residents in this remote region. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Remote Area Nurse (RAN) to join our healthcare team. As a RAN, you will play a vital role in providing essential healthcare services to individuals residing in the Tjuntjuntjara Community (Jun, Jun) and surrounding areas where access to medical care is limited. You will be supported by a Medical Director with over 40 years' experience and a Clinical Lead with 30 year's experience. This is a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact in underserved communities like Jun, Jun. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to individuals in Tjuntjuntjara, including health assessments, vaccinations, wound care, and chronic disease management. Work under a portfolio system, which will mean you are given a health portfolio for example, Adult Immunizations, Sexual Health, Chronic Disease Management, Aged Care and Antenatal Care. Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies, including trauma and life‑threatening situations, and administer immediate care until evacuation or further treatment is possible. Educate community members on health promotion, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices, helping them take control of their well‑being. Work closely with a small team of healthcare providers, collaborating with other professionals and community members to assess patient needs, plan and deliver care, and monitor patient progress. Administer medications and ensure proper storage and management of pharmaceuticals in accordance with established protocols. Undertake cold chain procedures to ensure the proper storage and transport of temperature‑sensitive medications and vaccines, maintaining their efficacy. Assist in maintaining infection control procedures and hygiene standards, safeguarding both patients and healthcare personnel in the remote setting. Be prepared to facilitate and coordinate medical evacuations when necessary, ensuring patients receive the appropriate care in a timely manner. Participate in after‑hours on‑call rostering to provide medical support and emergency care during evenings and weekends, ensuring round‑the‑clock healthcare coverage for the community. This job opportunity is not a remote or work‑from‑home position; it requires the selected candidate to work on‑site at the company's location. Must be willing to relocate and live in the Western Australian Aboriginal Community called Tjuntjuntjara. Requirements Must be over 18 years of age. Must have a current Australian driver's licence and the ability to drive a manual vehicle. Must be able to pass a police check assessment. Must hold a valid Working with Children's Clearance. Must be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse. Must be able to provide flexible work hours and participate in after‑hours on‑call. Must have a right to work and live in Australia with no visa conditions. Qualifications and Experience At a minimum, you must have completed one of the following: a Bachelor of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science (Nursing) or a Bachelor of Nursing Science. Remote Emergency Care (REC) course or an equivalent emergency course. Advanced Life Support (ALS). Experience in remote healthcare or emergency care. Understanding of Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), including Category S4 (Prescription Only) and S8 (Controlled Drugs) medications. Comfortable and experienced in cannulation and suturing. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to work in remote and challenging environments. Ability to adapt to limited resources and use creative problem‑solving skills. A commitment to delivering high‑quality, culturally sensitive care. Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities. A positive attitude and a passion for teamwork. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including an understanding of their cultural values, traditions, and healthcare practices. How to Apply Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you're the perfect fit for this role. We strongly encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds, including couples seeking employment together and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to apply.
