Community Parenting Volunteer - Presenter About Gidget Foundation Australia Gidget Foundation Australia is a national not-for-profit dedicated to supporting the emotional wellbeing of expectant, new and potential parents. We provide free psychological counselling, group programs, and peer support to those experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety. Our mission is to ensure that every parent receives timely, appropriate, and specialist care. Become a volunteer The Community Parenting Program provides GFA with a unique opportunity to connect directly with new parents and with community organisation coordinators and to raise awareness of the importance of perinatal mental health through already established and trusted new parent networks/groups. The Community Parenting program partners with a range of community organisations and parenting groups including: Antenatal classes in public or private hospitals Community Parenting Groups (Mothers Groups) Established organisations e.g. Playgroups NSW Independent community groups e.g. Library groups, Childcare centres, faith-based groups etc. About the role Role: Face to Face presenter Location: Auburn Hospital Antenatal Classes Frequency: Presentations every 5 weeks, commencing February 2026. Skills required: Good presenting skills and to be friendly, approachable. Role specifics: Willing to take part in role specific training and to be ready to learn about importance of perinatal mental health. Develop own relationship with small group coordinator (with already established partnership with GFA). Delivered (typically) to antenatal groups within hospitals on rotation with each group that forms. To deliver 25min, face-to-face presentations to pregnant and new parent groups re: the importance of perinatal mental health. NB small audiences of 8-20. Some members online and some in-person. Use 25 min scripted presentation and PowerPoint slides to provide awareness and education normalising mental health challenges and stating whats normal when adjusting to becoming a new parent etc and when to seek extra support. Outline local/national supports of where to seek help/services, including GFA, some gentle practical tools explored for mindfulness etc. Encouraging new parents to fill out QR coded feedback.
