The Department of Justice is seeking a Principal Employee Relations Advisor to manage and deliver expert advice on complex employment relations casework. In this role, you will lead and coordinate complex and sensitive matters including, but not limited to, disciplinary processes, employee suspensions, workplace investigations and internal reviews. You will provide high-quality employment and industrial relations advice to senior managers, ensuring decision-making is procedurally fair, evidence-based and compliant with legislation, industrial instruments, directives and whole-of-government policy. You will bring strong public sector employment relations knowledge, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, contributing to fair, consistent and contemporary workforce outcomes. The Department of Justice is seeking an experienced Principal Employee Relations Advisor to lead and manage complex employment relations casework. Working within a specialist employment relations function, this role is primarily responsible for managing complex and sensitive workforce matters. The role provides high-quality, evidence-based employment and industrial relations advice to senior managers and stakeholders, supporting fair, consistent and defensible decision-making in accordance with legislation, industrial instruments, directives and whole-of-government policy. You will manage and coordinate end-to-end employment relations casework involving legal, industrial, organisational or reputational risk. This includes advising on process and risk, coordinating investigations and reviews, preparing detailed briefing material, correspondence, submissions and reports for senior officer consideration. The role undertakes detailed research, The role undertakes detailed research and analysis of legislation, case law, directives and policy to inform advice on complex casework. You will identify and manage risk, ensure procedural fairness, and support managers to apply employment relations frameworks appropriately and consistently. You will also contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of employment relations policies, procedures, guidelines and tools, informed by casework trends and emerging risks. A key component of the role is translating complex employment and industrial relations requirements into practical, userfocused guidance to support operational decision-making. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate sound knowledge of employment and industrial relations, including a strong working understanding of employment legislation, industrial instruments, directives, case law and public sector employment practices. You will have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, professional and persuasive advice on complex matters. You will possess strong organisational and workload management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex matters concurrently and meet competing deadlines. You will work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team, contribute positively to a respectful and inclusive workplace culture, and support the Department's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
