Employment Type: Temporary, with the possibility of ongoing for at grade applicants Employment period: 30 June 2026 Grade/Band: Clerk Grade 09/10 Location: Sydney CBD, Flexible working options available Applications Close: Monday, 8 December 2025 at 9:59am Role impact & contribution As a Senior Associate, you will support strategic policy development by analysing and advising on policy, regulatory, and economic issues broadly related to the energy and economic transition. You will also manage cross-organisational stakeholder engagement and planning to drive the implementation of a corporate strategy aimed at positioning Treasury to steward the economic transition, build fiscal resilience for a sustainable economy, and enhance governance of climate change issues across the public sector. The Senior Associate will add critical technical skills to the team and contribute to the agile delivery of the Climate Finance Programs Branch’s key projects and ad hoc activities, in alignment with NSW Treasury’s climate change strategic priorities. Proactively building robust relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders is paramount, as is your contribution to improving the delivery of outcomes across the NSW Government through effective communication, collaboration, and advocacy with Treasury teams and agency counterparts. Achieve success as Senior Associate In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW. The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria: Strong research, analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking skills, ideally developed working in the fields of banking (e.g. project finance, deal structuring, financial modelling, accounting), management consulting (e.g. corporate strategy, change management), environmental/climate science (e.g. climate modelling, climate risk assessment, environmental impact assessment) or in the public sector (e.g. policy, governance, risk management). Strong financial, science or engineering (or equivalent technical) background to be able to address and interpret the potential impact of climate change on the State’s economic and fiscal position. Proven knowledge and understanding of climate/sustainable finance and the role it plays as a growing source of funding/investing for both the public and the private sectors. Demonstrated understanding of ESG and sustainability matters including the risks and opportunities associated with climate change and nature dependency. Demonstrated experience in producing high quality written advice in the form of briefing notes, issues papers or similar. Strong agile project design and management experience, and a demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks effectively and ask for support when needed. Ability to adapt to and thrive in a continuously changing business and policy environment. Experience in providing high quality policy advice. Strong demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, with strong interpersonal skills. Commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture and encouraging diversity of thought. Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Science or other relevant areas.
