Peer CARE Companion Regional Coordinator - Cairns Roses in the Ocean is a national not for profit organisation founded on and operating through the lens of lived experience of suicide; we exist to save lives and reduce emotional pain. We seek to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of all we represent, along with our own lived experience of suicide. With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we strive to innovate and transform suicide prevention, drive and deliver system reform and support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention. Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’ The opportunity This is a new role created to support our operations in Cairns, and therefore you must be located within this geographical area , as the community engagement and peer support required is to occur within community. There is also occasional intrastate and interstate travel as well. Reporting to the Statewide Coordinator, this position is responsible for the coordination, administration, and delivery of Peer CARE Companion in Community services in Cairns, including supporting regionally based Peer CARE Companion Volunteers. This role will suit someone who can be flexible in their working hours, as there will be a requirement to work some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable). Overview of position responsibilities Establish the Roses in the Ocean Peer CARE Companion: in Community service in your region; Conduct and/or source regional service and community engagement mapping in your region; Engage regional service providers in discussions to integrate Peer CARE Companion services throughout your region; Identify and support the development of local partnerships with scope to support in community resources (e.g., coffee cards and food items for interactions with people using the service); Identify opportunities for partnership with existing services to provide complimentary and supplementary services and establish relationships in line with direction from the Statewide Coordinator. Help develop and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy to facilitate the expansion of the peer CARE Companion pool, provide ongoing support and training that results in high retention rates. Deliver information sessions to potential stakeholders and volunteers within your community both online and face to face; Attend relevant community-based events to actively promote Peer CARE Companion and Roses in the Ocean’s other service offerings; Support the onboarding and engagement of Peer CARE Companions in your region; In collaboration with the Service Delivery team, maintain and update Monday.com boards and reporting tools to ensure service activities are tracking accurately; Maintain quality information management practices in accordance with best-practice, privacy and confidentiality principles and alignment with the values of peer work and Roses in the Ocean; Contribute to a communications and marketing strategy to facilitate uptake of Peer CARE Companion services, expanding the Peer CARE Companion volunteer pool and general promotion of the service; About You To succeed in this role, you’ll have: A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends, and communities. Previous experience in service delivery in a peer setting or in a similar role. Some experience in establishing/introducing a new community service in suicide prevention or a related community health or welfare service. Sophisticated interpersonal skills, including the ability to sit comfortably with people who are distressed and have open conversations about suicide and listen with intent. Experience in managing competing priorities, complex tasks and coordinating activities. High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally. Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated time-management, logistics and problem-solving skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, Monday.com and SharePoint. A working knowledge of Volaby would be beneficial. Why Roses in the Ocean?
