Team Lead Merton Children and Young People's Occupational Therapy We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and innovative Registered Occupational Therapist to take on the role of Team Lead for our Children and Young People's Occupational Therapy (CYPOT) service in Merton. This is a dynamic leadership position where you will be responsible for 80% management and leadership and 20% highly complex clinical intervention . You will be essential in shaping the future of paediatric OT services across the community, ensuring high standards and effective integrated pathways. Job summary Lead, Develop, and Innovate Key Responsibilities & Scope As the Team Lead, you will be the clinical and managerial champion for the service, operating across community clinics, local authority schools, and specialist schools for children with complex needs. Main duties of the job 1. Leadership & Management (80% focus): Service Development: Proactively ead & implement service improvement initiatives, utilizing quality improvement processes. Team Oversight: Provide direct supervision & leadership to Band 7 OTs & other staff, managing performance, sickness & capability. Quality Assurance: Oversee data monitoring, manage key performance indicators (KPIs) & quality assure clinical reports & advice. Workforce Development: Champion the team's professional development through appraisals, clinical supervision & coordinating placements for OT students Risk Management: Handle & investigate DATIX incidents & complaints. 2. Highly Specialist Clinical Practice (20% focus): Manage a small caseload of highly complex clinical cases (0-19 years) , utilizing advanced clinical reasoning, assessment, and intervention skills. Act as a source ofexpert clinical advice & second opinions for the team, particularly in areas like splint fabrication, orthotics & managing complex health & educational need Collaborate on ethical clinical reasoning & problem-solving techniques. Person Specification Education/Qualification Essential Registered Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist with UK HCPC registration Educated to master's degree or equivalent combination of post graduate diploma, short courses and experience First level degree or equivalent. Evidence of further relevant courses Desirable Management training and qualification Mentorship course Experience Essential Has the required level of knowledge of area of specialty, and be able to apply that knowledge, in order to promote the health of the patients. Extensive post-registration clinical experience at minimum of Band 7 (AfC) or equivalent Experience in team management including performance management Experience of working with a wide range of rehab conditions Effectively working in collaboration and negotiating across organisational boundaries Experience of receiving and delivering clinical supervision Experience of providing evidence-based care. Proven ability to prioritise and manage own workload with minimal supervision Experience of working collaboratively with a variety of agencies and professionals and across organizational boundaries Evidence of innovation in practice Evaluation & audit skills Desirable Range of different posts with varying requirements throughout previous career history Experience of Audit & Benchmarking Skills and Knowledge Essential Leadership skills Excellent Clinical & Assessment Skills Negotiating skills IT literate in the use of Microsoft word, email and a basic understanding of Excel spreadsheets, data recording tools e.g. SystmOne (Patient Activity data and Datix). Highly effective clinical skills in own professional area and relevant to the assessment and treatment of adults with complex rehabilitation conditions Demonstrates experience in the use of a variety of methods available to deliver appropriate information effectively with both patients and staff. Knowledge of the Code of Professional Conduct appropriate to professional background Desirable Theoretical and practical understanding of Change Management, Motivation & Morale and other branches of managerial practice Treatment of patients with neurological conditions Ability to measure performance through analysis of a number of data recording methods.
