About The Role Are you ready to take on a brand-new, exciting role where you can make a real difference in the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities? Join the Central Coast Aboriginal Mental Health Team (AMHT) as a Cultural Consultant and be at the forefront of shaping culturally safe and responsive mental health services. This unique Aboriginal-identified position provides a fantastic opportunity to deliver essential cultural advice and advocacy, supporting Aboriginal consumers both as inpatients and in the community. Working closely with clinical teams, you’ll play a key role in ensuring services honour Aboriginal culture, address the impacts of trauma and colonisation, and promote social and emotional wellbeing through a strong cultural perspective. In this role, you’ll be an important part of the Aboriginal Mental Health Team, helping to support the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people using mental health services. You will work closely with mental health clinicians to provide cultural advice and guidance, ensuring that care is respectful of Aboriginal culture and sensitive to the effects of trauma and colonisation. You will help with care planning and assessments using tools that consider cultural needs. You will also be an advocate for Aboriginal consumers, supporting their connection to family, community, and culture, whether they’re in hospital or living in the community. Collaboration is key. You will work alongside clinical teams, take part in reviews and meetings, and share insights to make sure Aboriginal consumers’ voices are heard. You will also connect with local Aboriginal health organisations and other agencies to help provide well‑rounded support and better health outcomes. This is a meaningful role where you can really make a difference by helping to create culturally safe and supportive mental health care for Aboriginal people. About You You hold tertiary qualifications in Health, Counselling, Social Work, Community Welfare, or possess relevant work experience. You are of Aboriginal descent, recognised by your community, and meet the genuine occupational qualification for this role. Strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the social and emotional challenges faced by Aboriginal people. Hold current, unrestricted NSW Driver’s Licence. Skilled in providing cultural advice and advocacy within a mental health setting. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working effectively alongside clinical teams and community partners.
