Overview The Australian National University is seeking a Postdoctoral or Research Fellow focusing on pharmacogenomic research within the National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG). The NCIG leads genomic resource development to advance knowledge and healthcare utility for Indigenous Australians, including telomere-to-telomere reference genomes and population-scale variation catalogues, in partnership with Indigenous Australian communities. A major research project titled "Advancing Health Equity for Indigenous Australians through Pharmacogenomics" is underway. The project emphasizes pharmacogenomics research to translate findings into practical health benefits. Responsibilities As a postdoctoral or research fellow focusing on pharmacogenomic research, you will : Conduct discovery research and develop innovative algorithms and software solutions for genomic data analyses Perform empirical evaluations and benchmarking experiments to enhance the utility of NCIG genomic resources Contribute to ongoing and new projects within collaborations with Indigenous communities Qualifications and Selection Criteria Awarded a PhD or nearing completion in relevant quantitative biology disciplines (e.g., pharmacogenomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, population genomics and genetics). Record of research experience and output in the relevant field (publications, conference papers, reports, or technical contributions) demonstrating research potential. Expert knowledge of DNA sequencing technologies; sequence alignments, genome assembly, and genome annotations; genomic analysis workflows; genomics data management formats; publicly accessible genomics databases (NCBI and equivalents). Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and / or cloud computing; proficiency in at least one high-level programming / scripting language (e.g., Python or R); version control (e.g., GitHub). Functional knowledge or experience with SQL and / or NoSQL databases, web services, and data representations. Ability to communicate complex research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences in writing and in seminars / conferences. Strong organizational skills with the ability to keep accurate records and prioritise tasks to meet project timelines. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team with minimal supervision. Understanding of equal opportunity principles and a commitment to applying them in a university context.
