Join Smiths Detection as a Field Service Engineer at Sydney Airport, maintaining and repairing advanced X‑ray and trace detection equipment in a dynamic, safety‑focused environment. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: Troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing X‑ray and trace detection equipment Completing preventative maintenance tasks per service contracts and schedules Responding to equipment faults and corrective maintenance requirements according to service contracts and KPIs Testing components and circuitry using multimeter, computer/laptop, and inbuilt equipment software Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronics faults (24 volts or less) Replacing belts, rollers, motors, and other mechanical components within X‑ray equipment Replacing and manoeuvring X‑ray sources and heavy parts using lifting aides Inspecting, vacuuming, cleaning, de‑greasing, repairing, and replacing internal machine parts Assisting with new equipment installation alongside programs, installation teams, subcontractors, and customer stakeholders Completing field service documentation and reports Participating in technical, safety, compliance, and job‑related training (online and in‑person) Maintaining a clean and tidy workstation and work environment Responding to queries from customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders verbally and in writing Managing spare parts consumption and updating IT software tracking records Joining regular internal team meetings and safety briefings Assisting with maintenance and calibration of tools and testing equipment Performing other duties as required About You The company is looking for: Certificate 3 Trade Qualification or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or IT fields Provisional or Unrestricted driver’s license Ability to obtain security clearances and industry licenses Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Indicative experience of 0‑2 years Compensation & Benefits Excellent training and career growth opportunities locally and globally Inclusive environment with strong leadership and focus on safety and wellbeing Flexible benefits supporting health, wellbeing, financial, and lifestyle needs for employees and families Training & Development Smiths Detection offers excellent training and opportunities for career growth across the business, supporting ongoing knowledge and experience development.
