Geographical Information Systems Officer Shire of Capel – Capel, Bunbury and South West WA Location: Capel, Bunbury and South West WA • Department: Other (Information and Communication Technology) • Sector: Government – Local (Government and Defence) • Employment Type: Full time • Base annual salary: 80,340 + Super Job Overview The Shire of Capel is a rapidly growing coastal Shire located between Bunbury, Busselton and the scenic South West. We are looking for a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Officer to support the collection, maintenance and delivery of accurate spatial data. You will produce maps, reports and simple spatial analyses, assist with system updates and provide approachable, first‑level support to staff. Responsibilities You will balance technical tasks with customer service, working with colleagues across the Shire to ensure data is clear, current and accessible. You will help integrate GIS data with corporate systems, contribute to new tools, datasets and process improvements, and support a variety of mapping requests, data audits and projects. Rewards / Benefits Flexibility and support Investment in your career development An inclusive culture that values all, EEO, diversity and differences are respected Strong focus on employee wellbeing and safety Full‑time, 19‑day work month Base annual salary of 80,340 per annum Annual leave loading of 17.5% Up to 14% Shire superannuation contribution Commuter use of a Shire vehicle, with restricted private use during rostered on‑call periods Employee benefits program offering a wide range of discounts Desired Skills and Experience Behaviour aligned with the Shire’s HEART values of Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork Ability to use GIS software such as QGIS, ESRI or IntraMaps for basic mapping and data tasks Understanding of spatial data concepts and data management Developing knowledge of MS SQL Server Strong attention to detail with the ability to capture and maintain accurate datasets Good communication skills to assist internal users and document processes Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and in a team A Certificate or Diploma in GIS or a related discipline would be advantageous. Experience with corporate system integration, spatial data sources used in Local Government and tools such as FME will be highly regarded.
