Histology Laboratory Technician Location: Northmead 2152, Sydney, NSW Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time We are seeking a reliable and skilled Histology Laboratory Technician to join our pathology team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on laboratory work and can perform routine histology tasks with accuracy, efficiency, and care. About Us For over 20 years, Austpath has provided specialised anatomical pathology services across New South Wales. Our purpose‑built laboratory at 197 Briens Road, Northmead is just a 5‑minute walk from Westmead Private and Public Hospitals and 15 minutes from Westmead Railway Station. With state‑of‑the‑art facilities, a convenient location, and on‑site staff parking, we offer an excellent and supportive working environment. Key Duties & Responsibilities Core Histology Tasks Embedding: Prepare tissue specimens and embed them in paraffin blocks. Sectioning: Perform microtomy to produce high‑quality sections for staining. Cut‑Up (Grossing Assistance): Assist with simple cut‑up procedures under pathologist guidance (e.g., small biopsies, simple specimens). Specimen Handling & Workflow Receive and label specimens accurately. Prepare, organise, and track specimens through all stages of processing. Ensure timely delivery of slides for reporting. Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) Assist with FNAB procedures, including patient support, coordination, and reporting assistance. Quality & Compliance Maintain high standards of quality control and documentation. Perform routine equipment cleaning, maintenance checks, and minor troubleshooting. About You Certificate III/IV in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent preferred. Experience in histology (embedding, microtomy, or cut‑up) highly regarded. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols. Good communication skills and a positive, collaborative attitude. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
