NIDA is unique in the world for its practice-based and industry-relevant training in the range that it offers which includes Acting, Design, Costume, Properties and Objects, Technical Theatre and Stage Management, Scenic Construction, Writing for Performance, Directing and Cultural Leadership. About the Role The Counsellor provides face-to-face counselling and wellbeing support to NIDA students, with a particular focus on supporting First Nations students, People of Colour, and those with lived experiences of racism. The role delivers culturally safe and trauma-informed therapeutic practice, contributes to case management and risk escalation processes, and supports the design and delivery of inclusive wellbeing and cultural safety initiatives. In addition, the Counsellor offers guidance to staff on culturally appropriate support strategies, ensures accurate documentation and compliance with reporting standards, facilitates referrals to internal and external services, and actively participates in service development and continuous improvement to strengthen student wellbeing and belonging. About You You hold a degree qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or a related field, with professional registration or membership. You bring demonstrated experience supporting students from diverse cultural backgrounds, including First Nations and People of Colour communities, and have proven capability in assisting individuals impacted by racism and systemic disadvantage. Your strengths include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organisational ability, and a commitment to maintaining accurate documentation. You practice with high self-awareness, ethical conduct, and clear professional boundaries, underpinned by a deep understanding of cultural safety, equity, and inclusive wellbeing practices. With a valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain), you also draw on lived experience of social and cultural exclusion, and a strong appreciation of the challenges faced by marginalised people in learning environments. The base annual salary is $84,770+ 12% Superannuation, based on a 38-hour working week.
