This volunteer opportunity will help to support the production of Lifelines "Threads by Goody Bag" range by assisting in the creation of upcycled fashion pieces that celebrate individuality, reduce textile waste, and raise funds for crisis support services. As a Threads Garment Construction Assistant, you’ll be helping create sustainable fashion that directly supports Lifelines crisis support services and reduces textile waste. Our products are made from rejected materials and are sold in select Lifeline stores to raise vital funds. You’ll be working in the Threads workspace inside the Lifeline Warehouse at Geebung, a dedicated area equipped with industrial sewing machines, cutting tables, and tools. The work is hands‑on, creative and rewarding. Volunteers are asked to complete tasks such as cutting, pinning and preparing pieces for assembly. You will have guidance and support from the Threads project leader and other team members. The warehouse welcomes volunteers from Monday to Thursday. The Threads team is small, collaborative, and welcoming. Volunteers work independently or in pairs on tasks, but there’s a strong sense of shared purpose and teamwork. Everyone’s contribution is valued equally. What you’ll be doing Cutting fabric using stencils or pattern pieces Pinning and assembling garment components for final sewing Trimming materials for production Sorting, labeling, pricing and packing items Performing quality checks on finished products Maintaining a clean and organised workstation Following design instructions and sewing patterns Whats in it for you Build, maintain or contribute specialised skill sets Requirements of this role Basic to advanced sewing skills (domestic or industrial) Ability to follow instructions, sewing patterns, and visual references Attention to detail and commitment to quality Willingness to learn and work as part of a team Transport and Parking Options Onsite parking and/or free public parking is available. Public transport close to the site is available – Sunshine Station is a 10‑15 minute walk, and there are multiple bus routes that travel along Sandgate Road and Robinson Road.
