Civil Engineer – Intermediate (Beca HunterH2O – Newcastle) Beca HunterH2O is the Australian water business of Beca, one of Asia Pacific’s largest independent advisory, design and engineering consultancies. Role Overview As an Intermediate Civil Engineer you will join our Newcastle water team to design and deliver water and wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations and conveyance pipelines. You will support the entire design process—from reviewing design requirements and site investigations, through calculations and modelling, to drafting oversight and report preparation. You will work closely with clients and the broader multidisciplinary project team, providing solutions both on‑site and remotely. Responsibilities Design engineering of water and wastewater treatment facilities, reservoirs, pump stations and conveyance pipelines. Review and develop design requirements, site investigations, calculations and modelling. Oversee drafting and prepare technical reports and specifications. Build and maintain strong client relationships and understand client core business needs. Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and support project delivery as part of multi‑office teams. Travel to project sites as required. Adhere to safety, constructability and operational best practices, applying relevant Australian standards and WSAA codes. Identify and manage design‑related risks and implement effective risk‑management strategies. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline. Experience in water and wastewater treatment and/or conveyance design. Knowledge of safety in design, constructability, operational practices and relevant Australian standards. Experience managing small to medium engineering design projects. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a broad range of audiences. Commitment to working safely and within the company’s HSEQ systems.
