NSW Ambulance Emergency Medical Call Taker (Communications Assistant) Permanent full‑time role based in Charlestown. Rotating 24/7 roster with 12‑hour shifts. About NSW Ambulance NSW Ambulance provides essential health services to the people of NSW, relieving suffering through out of hospital care. From traditional emergency response to connecting patients who do not need an emergency response with the most appropriate health provider. Job Overview Communications Assistants are the first point of contact for the community during their times of need. Your resilience, empathy and technical skills will guide callers and support them through what may be their worst moment. Responsibilities Receive, record and quickly progress emergency phone calls to Triple Zero (000) in a fast‑paced environment. Provide lifesaving first aid advice, remain resilient and dynamic while recording information, and ensure callers are given the necessary support until paramedics arrive on scene. Work 12‑hour shifts on a 24‑hour rotating roster (4 days on, 5 days off) at Charlestown Control Centre. Qualifications & Skills Enjoy working in a busy environment; multi‑tasking with high attention to detail is the norm. Tech savvy enough to use multiple software systems under pressure. Persistence, logical thought processes and remaining calm in stressful situations. Effective communicator: listening, showing empathy and adapting style to the situation. Demonstrate highest standards of professional conduct and supportive attitude. Learn quickly, developing capability whilst embracing constructive feedback. Available to work 12‑hour shifts on a 24‑hour rotating roster. Applicants Information Roles are appointed on a permanent full‑time basis, working 12‑hour shifts across a 24/7 rotating roster. Applicants are expected to adhere to set rosters as required by their nominated Control Centre. Temporary reasonable adjustments may be considered in extenuating circumstances on a case‑by‑case basis. Requirements: Valid First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) or willingness to obtain before commencement. Benefits & Salary Base salary up to $85,000 per annum with overtime, shift allowances and superannuation. Salary range during training: $64,529, increasing to $68,764–$,268 per annum with yearly pay increments, allowances, shift penalties, and overtime. 5 weeks of annual leave per year.
