Our Region Services team The Region Services team redefines the way AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings to customers across every industry and of every size, including start‑ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations. We are actively seeking experienced Systems Development Engineers with a strong background in cloud operations. Key job responsibilities Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide unique solutions to customers' needs. Interact with engineers and partner with other AWS teams to help reproduce and resolve issues. Leverage extensive Linux and technical experience to provide feedback to internal AWS teams on how to improve services. Drive service‑team communication during critical events. Drive projects that improve support‑related processes and operational experience. Write tutorials, how‑to videos, and other technical articles for the developer community. Work on critical, highly complex problems that may span multiple AWS services. Apart from working on a broad spectrum of technical issues, an AWS Support Engineer may also coach/mentor new hires, develop & present training, partner with development teams on complex issues or contact deflection initiatives, participate in new hiring, write tools/scripts to help the team, or work with leadership on process improvement and strategic initiatives. Must hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see A day in the life Primarily a Linux technical support role – in the cloud. On a typical day, a Support Engineer will be responsible for solving internal operational issues, preparing or reviewing operational dashboards, working through the change management system to modify systems, writing new run‑books for newly onboarded services, training other new Support Engineers, and using internal AI systems for problem solving and diagnosis. Occasionally required to participate in “on‑call” rotations to resolve incidents occurring out‑of‑hours. About The Team AWS Region Services builds and operates new global regions using foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently release new regions supporting customers in our global environment. As a member of Region Services, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialised security solutions. Basic Qualifications 5+ years support engineering or system administration experience on Linux or Unix systems. Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, C, C++, Java, or Ruby. Deep understanding of scalable computing systems. Good working knowledge of highly distributed virtual environments, networking, software build and deployment processes. Preferred Qualifications Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technical field. Understanding of cloud computing concepts and architectures. Strong grasp of networking fundamentals, preferably with hands‑on experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc. Familiarity with efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed systems.
