Research Associate in Adversarial Learning UNSW Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia Opportunity The School of Computer Science and Engineering is offering an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct both independent and collaborative research as part of a defence funded project focused on developing robust multimodal foundational models for continual situational understanding. Specifically, the role will focus on developing adversarial models and attacks to evaluate the robustness and security of the model, as well as proposing effective defence methodologies. Responsibilities You will contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and actively collaborate with industry partners. Qualifications PhD (or soon to be awarded) in computer science, electrical engineering or related area with demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Experience in researching on adversarial AI attacks and defence strategies. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision. Demonstrated track record of publications in top‑rated journals and conferences in the discipline. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, external clients and students. Ability to supervise undergraduate students or equivalent experience in the supervision of junior staff in related projects. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures. Salary and Contract Salary, Level A – AUD$113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation. Full time. Fixed‑term contract – 3 years starting in January 2026. Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia. Candidates must have working rights for Australia.
