Senior Scientist - Molecular Haematology

We are seeking the best suited applicant to join our hard-working team of Health Professionals in the Molecular Haematology unit part of the Special Investigation section of the department. The Senior Scientist will apply high level scientific knowledge, skills, experience and scientific leadership requiring independent decision making and judgement in Molecular Haematology leading to the provision of pathology results and high-level advice to client groups.The Molecular Haematology unit is part of the Special Investigation section of the Haematology department, PAH and provides diagnostic testing for malignant haematology including minimal residual disease analysis for acute leukaemia.This role is primarily required to develop and validate molecular assays for diagnostic haematology testing using a variety of molecular methods and in accordance with regulatory standards and guidelines for pathology laboratories. The role is based at PA in the Molecular Haematology laboratory, however for some tests initial validation work may be performed at Central laboratory.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and skill in the delivery of scientific judgement withina molecular biology laboratory, particularly in the field of diagnostic haematology.Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services of a complex naturetoensure the maintenance of professional clinical standardsand established principles / procedures.Demonstrated ability and skills to develop and validate molecular assays for mutation screening and minimal residual disease monitoring using a variety of platforms including quantitative real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), digital PCR and Next-generation sequencing (NGS).Demonstrated ability to actively participate in a team environment and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff, and colleagues.Demonstrated ability to provide advice to laboratory and medical staff on the suitability of testing and interpretation of results pertaining to Molecular Haematology.Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.Qualifications, registrations and other requirementsThe successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in molecular science.Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed.
