About the role The School’s Fremantle campus seeks expressions of interest from experienced teachers who have a passion for teaching. We are seeking tertiary supervisors who will contact beginning teachers prior to their professional experience placements in schools or early childhood education centres, and then observe them teaching lessons/experiences and meet with them in the schools/centres on three occasions across their term-long placements. Mentoring and supporting preservice teachers, assessing their progress in relation to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and liaising with supervising teachers and other school/centre staff are key activities. Key Responsibilities Mentor the preservice teacher throughout their Professional Experience placement. Mentoring includes: - Lesson/experience observations, - written feedback to the pre-service teacher, - collaborative discussions with the supervising teacher and pre-service teacher, Observing each preservice teacher’s practicum journal to offer support and advice throughout the placement Act as an independent advocate for the preservice teacher, supporting all aspects of the placement in an objective manner. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and make judgements about the extent to which preservice teachers meet the Standards. Make initial phone contact and up to three face-to-face school/centre visits throughout the placement period (depending on the length of placement). Qualifications, skills & experience Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bachelor of Education secondary or primary. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to foster high levels of collegiality and ability to empathise with students. Proven ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines, in a busy education environment. Available to work during the school day for school/early learning centre visits.
