General Manager – Operations

For over 30 years, Porter Plant has been a market leader in dry hire plant and equipment across Australia. We are now seeking a talented and experienced General Manager – Operations to join our leadership team and drive our national expansion. About the Role Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the operational performance of Porter Plant, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of services across workshops, field service, spare parts, and transport. With a pragmatic approach and strong leadership skills, you will set the vision, execute strategic plans, and deliver results. Based at either our Ballarat or Derrimut office, you will travel regularly across our network of sites and to customer and supplier locations. Please note it is a requirement to work in Ballarat minimum 3 days per week. Key Responsibilities Lead preventative maintenance programs to maximise fleet availability and lifecycle Manage workflows for planned and unplanned maintenance, ensuring compliance and optimal resource scheduling Oversee budget planning, analysis, and reporting Monitor workforce allocation, balancing in-house mechanics and external contractors Conduct annual reviews of contractors and suppliers, securing procurement opportunities Drive productivity KPIs and manage urgent maintenance issues on a 24/7 basis Ensure accurate data capture and reporting via internal systems and fleet management software Maintain OH&S standards in partnership with the HSEQ Manager Monitor major contracts for compliance, asset downtime, and dispute resolution Manage branches ensuring KPI's are met and workshops are compliant Champion employee training and continuous improvement initiatives About You Minimum 5 years’ proven success in the hire/rental industry in a senior operational role Trade background or mechanical experience (preferred but not essential) Strong fleet management and mobile plant compliance expertise Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Analytical mindset with strong computer skills Decisive leader with the ability to motivate and manage teams Willingness to travel intrastate and interstate High attention to detail and ability to act with urgency What We Offer Competitive salary package (negotiable based on experience) Fully maintained company vehicle Access to Toyota fleet discounts and savings on new vehicles Discounts at hundreds of retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Coles, Myer, BCF, and more Discretionary bonuses linked to company performance Full uniform provided Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Inclusive culture with BBQs, charity fundraisers, and team initiatives If you have a proven track record in operations and are ready to take on a challenging, diverse leadership role, apply now and be part of Porter Plant’s next chapter of growth. #J-18808-Ljbffr
