Ed Support Level 1-Range 4 Business Manager Department of Education Victoria – Hughesdale VIC Hughesdale Primary School was established in 1924 and is located in the south‑eastern suburbs of Melbourne within the City of Monash. Our motto Aim High is reflected in the partnership between students, staff and parents. In 2025, our school caters for approximately 550 students within a 25‑classroom model. We have four specialist teaching areas; Languages (French), Performing Arts (Drama & Music), Visual Arts and PE. The Professional Learning Communities (PLC) model is implemented across each year level team, supporting interrogation of student achievement data to inform teaching through regular inquiry cycles. All staff are required to be life‑long learners with ongoing professional development a priority for the teaching teams. Staff are supported by Learning Specialists and leaders who attend PLC planning sessions. The school has a strong focus on differentiation, personalised goal setting and rigour, to ensure all students reach their maximum potential. Selection Criteria SC1: Demonstrated capacity to lead an office team, including directing the work of others. SC2: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in human resource and financial management record systems. SC3: Sound knowledge of financial management legal requirements and practices, including the capacity to produce reports and provide advice. SC4: High level organisational skills, including the capacity to prioritise work flows. SC5: High level written and verbal communication skills. Role Attendance is required Monday to Friday. A Business Manager will undertake tasks that impact the whole school. The role involves gaining cooperation of staff or the school community to achieve objectives in administration, finance or human resources. The Business Manager will have some latitude in how objectives are achieved, within standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures will require guidance from senior management. Key responsibilities include staff management to achieve expected outcomes, resolving staff management issues with minimal reference to senior management, and providing timely reports and advice on finance, HR or administration to senior management. Responsibilities Deliver School Services Manage the design and production of school publications and documents. Finance Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to the financial decision‑making of the school. Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and school council. Direct accounting processes and ensure all funds, including investments, are accounted for according to Treasury regulations. Provide advice to staff on spending against budget for faculties, programmes and other school projects. Administer government grants and other school income. Manage fund‑raising activities. General Administration Provide administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff. Support external service providers as required. Process student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers. Support school events, functions and projects. Implement induction programmes for new staff, volunteers and other workers. Human Resources Research, plan and prepare development programmes for support staff. Manage recruitment procedures. Provide authoritative advice to leadership on support structures and work practices. Assist in developing occupational health and safety standards. Manage employee relations procedures. Assist in human resource planning. Manage School Resources Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment. Liaise and negotiate with service providers regarding cost and quality. Supervise contracted services. Manage the development and collection of resource material. Support School Council Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues. Evaluate and report on the operational efficiency of computer systems and recommend improvements. Develop techniques and procedures that affect work practices beyond the workplace. Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
