Environmental Engineer / Scientist – Audit Assistant (Contaminated Land & Environmental) Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Employment Type: Full-time Seniority Level: Mid-Senior level Overview: We are looking for a Senior Environmental Engineer / Scientist with contaminated land audit experience, or wanting to have audit experience, or aspiring to become an Accredited Contaminated Site Auditor. Geosyntec has a great opportunity for you in our Sydney office as a member of our Audit Team. In this role you will be working in one of the leading audit practices in NSW (or other states) under the guidance of four experienced NSW EPA accredited Site Auditors. In addition to supporting complex, high‑profile audits across a range of sectors, you will also have the opportunity to contribute and participate in a broad range of contaminated site assessments and innovative remediation solutions, expanding the breadth of your experience in this industry. Specialised skills such as risk assessment, vapour intrusion/hazardous ground gas, hydrogeology, soil science, etc. will be highly regarded. If you don’t have an area of specialisation, we have many senior mentors to help you achieve your aspiring career ambition. Work flexibility is available for our Audit team members to fit personal schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assisting Site Auditors with contaminated land audit projects under the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997, including: Review of environmental reports Preparation of audit advice Preparation of site audit reports Conducting site inspections Participation in client meetings Assisting Lead Auditors or conducting compliance audit projects to meet state significant development/infrastructure projects, including: Review of construction and operational environmental management plans Conducting field and desktop compliance audits Preparation of audit program and reports Proposal and tender preparation Project management, including planning, budgeting, financial management, scheduling, quality reviews, and client communication Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other stakeholders Participation in environmental assessment and remediation projects (if interested in directing contaminated land projects) Other Benefits Brand new office space with easy access to public transport Training with 4 contaminated land auditors to progress towards accreditation Hybrid work model & work flexibility Bonus pool Participation at global training sessions Social activities Membership to industry associations Education and Licensure Bachelor's Degree in engineering, geology, environmental science or a related field (required) Postgraduate qualifications (preferred) Skills, Experience and Qualifications At least 5 years of environmental consulting experience in contaminated land in Australia (or equivalent) (required) Knowledge of NSW and national contaminated land guidance and regulations (required) Demonstrated success in the development and management of client relationships (preferred) Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams (preferred) Experience in contaminated land auditing (preferred) Experience in human health and ecological risk assessment, hydrogeology, vapour intrusion/hazardous ground gas (preferred) Effective communication skills, both verbal and written (required) Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, managing multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and travelling to client sites as needed (required) Valid NSW driver’s licence and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required) Ability to work for any Australian employer (required) We look forward to hearing from you.
