A Learning Tutor is part of the Occhiena Team, reporting to the Principal via the Director of Learning Enhancement. Child Safe Standards Committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. Understanding of the Child Safe Standards and legal obligations under Ministerial Order No. 1359. Suitable to work with children and young people. Commitment to Child Safe Standards, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), PROTECT, VRQA and VIT. Understanding and commitment to Child Safety protocols, Codes of Conduct and the Child Safe focus of St Joseph’s College. Role Overview A Learning Tutor (Integration Aide) supports student participation in regular class activities from Years 7 to 12, working under the guidance and supervision of subject teachers. The role may be referred to as Integration Aide, School Support Officer, or Learning Support Staff. Responsibilities Provide in‑class support from morning homeroom until the end of the school day. Attend daily morning briefings and homeroom sessions. Assist students within the regular classroom setting and implement student goals and strategies. Work with subject teachers to maximize student participation and learning outcomes. Support students on a withdrawal basis from mainstream classes (1‑6 students at a time). Pass concerns about at‑risk students to the Director of Learning Enhancement. Attend Occhiena Team meetings, college staff briefings and professional learning activities. Assist in exam support programs and in VCE/VCE VM following VCAA requirements. Implement Years 7 and 8 learning support programs (literacy and numeracy electives). Provide yard support and supervise the Homework Tuition Program. Facilitate special programs such as QuickSmart Maths and QuickSmart Numeracy. Participate in excursions, camps and retreats involving students requiring support. Perform general administration, data entry, reception covers and other tasks as required. Key Selection Criteria & Qualifications Commitment to the faith life of St Joseph’s College and the Salesian ethos. Appropriate qualifications and experience as an Integration Aide. Knowledge of relevant software (e.g., Word, SIMON). Well developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. High level of confidentiality, loyalty and professionalism. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Problem‑solving skills and the ability to seek assistance as required. Knowledge of Child Safety, Reportable Conduct, Privacy and OHS policies. Current Level 2 First Aid training or willingness to obtain this. Current WWCC (Working with Children Check) certification. Commitment to ongoing professional learning. Employment Conditions The Learning Tutor is employed as an Education Support Employee under CEMEA 2022, full‑time or part‑time. The position is usually classified as Category B. Start and finish times may vary between 7.30 am and 6 pm. The role includes a paid morning tea break and an unpaid 30 min lunch break (or 45 min with Principal approval).
