Working alongside a committed team of rural generalists, GPs and trainees, in the context of some of Australia’s greatest National Parks. This full‑time position comprises two distinct roles, each around 0.5 FTE. The successful candidate will collaboratively deliver both roles to provide an integrated service. Big Rivers Region (BRR) is seeking an experienced medical practitioner with a passion to lead and grow Primary Health medical services in the Region. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to deliver an integrated rural and remote Primary Health Care service across the Big River Region in the Northern Territory. The role could include a clinical fraction. Based in Katherine, the position will be responsible for medical leadership to the remote clinics managed by BRR at Borroloola, Numbulwar, Pine Creek and Robinson River. It will also be the primary liaison between the hospital and local Non‑NT Health primary care clinics and ACCHOs. A key responsibility will be the evolution of the Single Employment model allowing medical staff to work across a range of primary care settings. Supporting the Director of Medical Services will involve undertaking a range of projects to enhance the medical services provided at the hospital and across the region. The role enables flexible support to enhance your interests, including rural and regional general practice, rural generalist, internal medicine, and emergency medicine. We have a flexible senior roster with opportunities for upskilling, cross‑divisional practice and education of junior medical staff. Katherine hospital is unique, in offering the challenges of treating tropical medicine, trauma and patients with complex comorbidities in the context of remoteness and constrained service capacity. You would be a member of our medical leadership team consisting of rural generalists in emergency medicine, anaesthetics and obstetrics, general physicians and emergency specialists with visiting surgery, paediatric and mental health services. Katherine enjoys good working relationships with retrieval services and the Royal Darwin Hospital providing scope for maintaining professional networks and skills. It also enjoys close relationship with the Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program.
