Organisation description MiCare is a multicultural organisation offering a range of services such as Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living, Home Care Services, Migrant Services, Social Support Groups, MiMeals and Volunteer Services. *VISITING PROGRAMS:* In the community we service Victoria and regions of SE Queensland with our Visiting Programs. These programs are Government Funded and promote friendship to older people living independently at home or in Residential Aged Care who may be socially isolated, for any reason. Position description MiCare are looking for volunteers that can share a smile and companionship during weekly friendly visits to isolated and lonely elderly people in Victoria. As a volunteer visitor you will be asked to set aside one hour per week to pay a friendly visit to a resident of an aged care home, or a person in their own home who is receiving a Government funded Home Care Package. A volunteer visitor like yourself connects with a client regularly and can: Sit and chat about a wide range of interests Watch a favourite television program Work with them on a hobby Read to them or listen to music together Be a good friend who visits regularly Location Western Metro areas: Altona, Flemington, Footscray, Roxborough Park Sunbury, Sunshine. Skills required Good empathy Patience Willingness to chat with an elderly person with shared interests. Time required 1 hour per visit Commitment required Minimum 6 months - Ongoing Other requirements Speaking another language desirable but not essential .
