Systems Engineer – Amazon Web Services (AWS) Join the Region Services team, which redefines the way AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings to customers across every industry and of every size, including start-ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations. Key Responsibilities Dive deep into understanding the root cause of a customer issue, investigate metric trends, and consult with senior engineers. Own services and make out-of-hours support as painless as possible. Implement operational excellence best practices and strive to automate manual processes. Utilize Linux skills to troubleshoot, innovate fixes, keep software up-to-date, and provide data and metrics to manage capacity and efficiency. Apply networking knowledge to identify and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. Communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results. Be a self-starter, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and change; be customer-obsessed and resolve pain points quickly. A Day in the Life You'll spend a majority of your time operating and improving one of our largest software systems. Over a week, you review the operational health of the services in your team's care, write actionable bug reports, and follow a change-management process for production changes. You also resolve the backlog of operational issues, write helpful scripts, and occasionally participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours. About the Team Region Services provides the highest caliber Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for services within our Regions. Basic Qualifications 1+ years of experience with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals 1+ years of experience troubleshooting operations for highly scalable Linux systems running a large variety of back-end micro-service applications Knowledge of scripting in a language such as Bash, Python, or Ruby, with a focus on automation and solving systems issues Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical degree or related experience Proficient troubleshooting and anticipating problems that affect the performance, reliability, or availability of software systems 1+ Years of Operations experience working with CI / CD Pipelines and deployment systems like Terraform, Github Actions, Jenkins, or others Experience with Infrastructure as Code (such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar) Acknowledgement of Country In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
