Paediatric Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer (CMO) Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. Learn more about our network here: The Paediatric Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer (CMO) will be appointed to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. The position provides an opportunity to provide assessment and management of children in the ambulatory, acute care and resuscitation areas of the Emergency Department working with a team of paediatric trainees, emergency trainees, RMO’s, experienced nursing, allied health and clerical staff. The paediatric emergency specialists and fellow are on site for extended hours and on‑call at all times. The ED CMO is a leadership role, both within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students as well as members of the multidisciplinary team, but also across the broader hospital community. The role would be expected to participate in teaching and departmental quality assurance, as required. Appropriate clinical research will be encouraged. The position is for 20 hours per week (0.53 FTE), working rostered 10‑hour shifts and is comprised primarily of clinical duties. Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency. Employment of temporary visa holders is only considered if no suitable permanent resident or citizen is identified after labour market testing; employment in these cases will be temporary. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. Minimum five years post‑graduate experience with minimum 36 months in Paediatrics, or Emergency Medicine experience in an Emergency Department with a paediatric patient caseload. An interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. Completed APLS within 5 years or is a current APLS Instructor and demonstrates competency in common paediatric procedures. Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent time management, problem solving skills, clinical skills, judgment and expertise. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
