Senior Legal Counsel role within a leading global insurtech|Vienna based, excellent work conditions

Our client is an international insurtech with a mission to build the world's leading, technology-enabled ecosystem for protection and insurance.

With a full suite of digital and data-driven capabilities, the company powers connections between insurers, distributors, and customers to make it easier and more efficient to buy and sell insurance and protection products.

Business Partnering:

  • Deliver business-strategy-aligned legal services with agility;
  • Identify and resolve legal and regulatory issues to facilitate business growth;
  • Manage litigation and disputes;
  • Support Product, Underwriting and Distribution teams on design of insurance products and their compliant distribution;
  • Work closely with Legal & Compliance team members and Group stakeholders/functions including Legal, Compliance and Company Secretariat to implement regional and Group policies and standards and report on, escalate and mitigate risks and issues;
  • Promote awareness of new laws and regulations and help establish and maintain mechanisms to monitor on-going compliance.



Regulator Relationship Management:

  • Support and, in some cases, lead communication with insurance and data privacy regulators and consumer protection bodies and help ensure regulatory readiness in time of rapid change.



Corporate Governance

  • Advise on corporate governance matters for bolttech's operations in Europe.



Company Secretarial

  • Manage European legal entity company secretarial matters;
  • Maintain Group's company secretarial tool;
  • Liaise as necessary with Group's Company Secretary.



Risk Monitoring and Review

  • Advise on and support the identification and review of legal and compliance risks designing checks and balances to detect and control such risks;



Contracts Preparation and Review

  • Advise and lead business/drafting and negotiation of contracts (often complex) to be entered into with external client distributors, insurers, vendors etc;
  • Contract end-to-end process management: contract review process, contract signature rules and contract library;



Regulatory

  • In conjunction with Compliance, provide the business with advice in relation to statutory and regulatory obligations and issues including when structuring and developing new insurance products their ongoing implementation. European insurance distribution regulation and data privacy regulation will be of particular significance.
  • Advise and support the regional and/or in-country Compliance function;
  • Advise on and deliver legal and compliance-related training;
  • Foster a culture of integrity and compliance throughout the European operations.



Data Protection

  • Provide practical legal advice and solutions in support of with Group framework, local data privacy laws, regulations, relevant codes of practice and bolttech's strategic interests.
  • Support Compliance, regional leadership and senior management of local countries to introduce and maintain a data protection culture across the region and maintain visibility and consciousness of data protection.



Other

  • Help the Head of Legal & Compliance actively, strategically and cost effectively, manage/leverage outside counsel relationships and related expense.
  • Fluent in German both verbal and written
  • Experienced qualified insurance lawyer with minimum seven (7) years of post-qualification experience;
  • In-house experience (in financial services industry preferably);
  • Experience dealing with relevant regulators desirable;
  • Strong European insurance distribution knowledge, and ability to apply it to business products and processes;
  • Strong commercial contract and insurance distribution agreement drafting and negotiation experience;
  • Demonstrated technical legal expertise across legal and regulatory subjects relevant to insurance sector including data privacy, financial crime regulations (e.g. AML, CTF, IS, ABC) and corporate law. IP and GDPR experience is desirable;
  • International experience desirable;
  • Strong interest and proficiency in using and adopting technology. Strong computer skills, software proficiency (MS Office minimum) and willingness to adopt new technologies.

Our client offers a permanent contract with excellent work conditions and a salary package starting with 75.000,- EUR plus Equity options.
