Do you want to build a career in Finance leading the oversight of a fast-growing portfolio of long-term climate investments, green/blue loans, and sustainability linked financings that is full of meaning and impact, working at the forefront of the Green Transformation of Europe? The Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services (MAS) Industry Group in Europe (MAS Europe) plays a key role in supporting these strategic priorities of International Finance Corporation (IFC). MAS Europe covers investments in different manufacturing, agribusiness, and services sectors in emerging European countries, which can account for as much as 80% of overall economic activity in these countries.

MAS Europe is seeking to recruit an Investment Officer in Vienna, who will focus on oversight of its US$4.1 billion portfolio of long-term investments, about 80% of which are climate finance. In addition to supporting the management team of the department in oversight of the portfolio, the position calls for executing new investment transactions in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, Tourism/Retail/Property, and Health/Education sectors in Europe, as well as managing relationships with selected key MAS clients.

The candidate should have a proven track record of deal execution in multidisciplinary teams and professionals. Experience with various sponsors/investors/clients, as well as varying investment products and leading portfolio oversight/restructuring will be important. The work program is varied and may be somewhat complex requiring evaluation, original thinking, and strong written communication skills.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  1. Approval & Portfolio Actions: Provide support and quality control in line with best practices regarding approval of credit rating systems, project supervision reports, and portfolio action workflows.
  2. Client Management / Restructurings / Modifications: Manage selected client relationships and lead designated rescheduling / restructuring or modification exercises.
  3. New Deal Execution: Lead role in selected transactions, providing credit and investment guidance to teams.
  4. Repeat Business Origination: Develop repeat business opportunities with existing clients.
  5. Lead negotiation/documentation teams; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions in complex transactions.
  6. Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues.
  7. Lead Portfolio Review and Management Presentations.
  8. Compliance & Scorecard performance: Support the MAS Europe Investment Manager to ensure full compliance with the portfolio scorecard metrics.
  9. Staff Development: Mentor, coach, and provide on-the-job learning opportunities for junior staff.
  10. Knowledge Management: Collaborate with the MAS Europe team and global MAS units.
  11. Provide oversight on management of the equity portfolio.

Selection Criteria

  1. MBA or equivalent qualification
  2. At least 8 years of experience in finance and investments.
  3. Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure complex financial instruments.
  4. Sound business judgment in identifying and assessing business partners.
  5. Strong client relationship skills.
  6. Ability to interact directly with senior management of potential clients.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Russian or Ukrainian skills are preferred.
  8. Strong inter-personal skills.
  9. Ability to mentor junior investment staff.
  10. Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards.
  11. Genuine commitment to sustainable development.
  12. Willingness to travel extensively.
