Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) is one of IFC’s key industry groups responsible for a significant portion of IFC’s business volume, profitability and development reach. MAS engages in a wide range of sub-sectors including agribusiness, forestry, manufacturing, chemicals, healthcare, property, retail, and other areas, with both investment and advisory services delivered globally to IFC’s clients through its global network.

The MAS Europe (MAS EUR) team is seeking a qualified and experienced Investment Officer to assist in business development, and structure and process projects in emerging Europe. He/she will also assist in portfolio work, including supervision of existing projects, restructurings and rescheduling as needed. The candidate should have demonstrated track record in leading the commitment of debt and/or equity investments, preferably across MAS sectors, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  1. Develop a thorough understanding of the relevant sectors (Manufacturing and Services) and develop strong relationships with key counterparts in the private sector.
  2. Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, market potential, financial capability, and strategic fit.
  3. Work independently and with more senior staff to develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities in emerging Europe.
  4. Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions.
  5. Participate or lead negotiations as appropriate; use financial competencies and personal influencing skills to overcome impasses and lead negotiations to a successful outcome.
  6. Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close actions to the existing portfolio clients, including supervision, restructurings, reschedulings, capital increases, equity sales, etc.
  7. Mentor junior staff on all aspects of IO work.
  8. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners to develop investment opportunities.
  9. Coordinate closely with advisory, upstream and environmental & social teams to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBA or equivalent qualification
  2. At least 7 years of experience in finance with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments, preferably across MAS sectors
  3. Extensive experience in financing and supervision work
  4. Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments and to process complex transactions
  5. Business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client’s needs effectively
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  7. Ability to interact directly and independently with the management of clients and prospects
  8. Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds
  9. Ability to mentor more junior staff
  10. Genuine commitment to sustainable development and to highest ethical standards
  11. Willingness to travel extensively
